Carnmore, County Fermanagh

Origin

Ir. Carn Mór ‘great cairn’

Background

The cairn in this townland appears as as a quarry on all OS 6" maps and all that now survives of this cairn is collapsed cairn material. The material is the remnants of a cairn largely destroyed by quarrying in 1894 (NISMR). There are three other Irish townlands named Carnmore, including Carnmore in the parish of Kilconway in Co. Antrim and two townlands named Carnmore in Co. Galway (logainm.ie).
