Drumlish, County Fermanagh

Origin

Ir. Droim Lios 'ridge of the fort'

Background

The most satisfactory interpretation of this name is Droim Lios ‘ridge of the fort’.  The –sh termination, which is observed across the historical forms, can also be seen in two other Drumlishes (Cos Tyrone and Fermanagh),  Ringolish (Rinn an Lis ‘point or promontory of the fort’) in Co. Down, and in Arlish (Ard Lis ‘height of the fort’ or  Ard Lis ‘high-fort’) in the parish of Aghavea.
