The townland of Ballaghbeddy lies on the east bank of the Lower Bann which forms the western boundary of the parish of Finvoy. The fact that its name does not appear to be documented prior to 1780 (Ballaghbeddy on Lendrick’s Map of Co. Antrim) makes it difficult to establish a reliable derivation.
