Middle Park, County Antrim
Origin
Ir. An Pháirc Meánach“ middle field”
Background
1780 Midfarm suggests that park is probably the Irish páirc “field, enclosure” rather than the English word, Lendrick’s version being, therefore, an approximate translation of the Irish. If this is the case, then the current name is a partial translation of the Irish. The qualifying adjective middle suggests that there should perhaps be (or, have been) an UpperPark and a Lower Park nearby?
