Corradreenan East, County Fermanagh

Origin

Ir. Corr an Draighneáin ‘round hill of the place of blackthorns’ + E. East

Background

The component corra- might indicate either corra ‘weir’, or corr ‘round hill’ accompanied by the article an. However, in the absence of any evidence of a weir, we will agree with previous scholars who have proposed corr ‘round hill’. The second element appears to be draighneán ‘the place of blackthorns’, rather than draighean, based on the historical evidence. Corradreenan East is not contiguous with Corradreenan West.
