The village of Ardstraw which straddles the townlands of ARDSTRAW and CARNKENNY across the river Derg contains an old graveyard marking the site of an early monastery founded by St Eoghan or Eugenius who is said to have died in 617 AD [(muintir) Aird Sratha c.900].
