Killeen, County Down

Origin

Ir. An Coillín 'the little wood'

Background

No fewer than eighty townlands are named Killeen and many of these derive their names from cillín ''little church''. However, in the case of this townland there is no evidence of a church and it is more likely therefore that the name has its origin in coillín ''little wood''. Part of this townland is in the neighbouring parish of Dundonald.
