Drumbeggan, County Fermanagh
Origin
Ir. Droim Beagáin ‘Beagán’s ridge’
Background
The [v] consonant in the early form Dronvagan (1615) might suggest a family name qualifier of this name in an original form such as Droim Uí Bheagáin ‘Ó’ Beggan’s ridge’. However, the rest of the historical forms contain no evidence of the surname particle Ó (gen. Uí), and as such the predecessor to Ó Beagáin, the personal name Beagán (from a diminutive of beag‘small’) is more likely.
